DEMILITARIZED ZONE KOREA

Korea is the only divided country in the world. After the Korean War (June 25 1950 – July 27 1953), South Korea and North Korea established a border that cut the Korean peninsula roughly in half. Stretching for 2km on either side of this border is the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). As one of the last relics of the Cold War, the DMZ attracts a great deal of public interest, and is a popular destination for travelers visiting Korea. Despite the fact that this is the most heavily armed border in the world, it is extremely rare that any hostilities take place. These days the DMZ is a safe destination that we would thoroughly recommend to any traveler. The DMZ and its surroundings contain many interesting historical sights and pristine untouched natural surroundings. Various organizations offer DMZ guided tours. Itineraries differ, but most tours will take visitors to an observatory, one of North Korea’s infiltration tunnels, a military base, and right into Panmunjeon, the Joint Security Area in the middle of the DMZ where negotiations between the two sides are held.

Click http://www.familytreecircles.com/rodwell-from-salisbury-wiltshire-england-australia-17766.html to view a detailed outline of the RODWELL PEDIGREE established for the descendants of THOMAS RODWELL baptized 25 Dec 1778 St Edmunds Parish Salisbury Wiltshire England. His parents were SAMUEL RODWELL & MARY (nee WARD). This interesting name is of Anglo-Saxon origin. RODWELL is recorded as being the locational name 'of Radwell' - a hamlet parish of Felmersham in County Bedfordshire and from RODWELL, a parish in the diocese of Rochester. The name was originally derived from the Old English word 'READANWELLA' meaning the red well or stream. The name is also spelt RADWELL. http://warrenrodwell.shutterfly.com/ancestry

Local surnames may have derived from a manor held, from working in a religious dwelling, or from literally living by a wood or marsh or by a stream. Following the Crusades in Europe, a need was felt for a family name. This was recognized by persons of noble blood, who realised the prestige and practical advantage it would add to their status. Early records of the name mention RADEUUELLE (without surname) as listed as a tenant in the Domesday Book of 1086.

View all 5 photos...
According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, which begins on 3rd February 2011 and ends on 22nd January 2012. The Rabbit is the fourth sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animal signs. The Rabbit is a lucky sign. Rabbits are private individuals and a bit introverted. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are reasonably friendly individuals who enjoy the company of a group of good friends. They are good teachers, counsellors and communicators, but also need their own space.

According to Chinese tradition, the Rabbit brings a year in which you can catch your breath and calm your nerves. It is a time for negotiation. Don't try to force issues, because if you do you will ultimately fail. To gain the greatest benefits from this time, focus on home, family, security, diplomacy, and your relationships with women and children. Make it a goal to create a safe, peaceful lifestyle, so you will be able to calmly deal with any problem that may arise.

AEROFLOT RUSSIAN AIRLINES

View all 26 photos...
OJSC "Aeroflot — Russian Airlines" (Russian: ОАО «Аэрофлот — Российские авиалинии») (MICEX:AFLT RTS:AFLT), commonly known as Aeroflot (Аэрофлот, translation: "air fleet"), is the flag carrier and largest airline in Russia, based on passengers carried per year. Aeroflot operates domestic and international passenger services to 97 cities in 48 countries, mainly from Sheremetyevo International Airport, Moscow, using a fleet of 91 aircraft. Headquartered in Moscow, Aeroflot is one of the oldest airlines in the world, tracing its history back to 1923. In 1956, it became the first airline to successfully operate regular jet airliner services (with the Tupolev Tu-104), Czech Airlines being the second airline to do so in 1957.

During the Soviet era, Aeroflot was the Soviet national airline and the largest airline in the world. Since the dissolution of the USSR, Aeroflot has been transformed from a state-run enterprise into a semi-privatised airline which ranks amongst the most profitable in the world. Aeroflot is still considered the de facto national airline of Russia. Aeroflot has embarked on a fleet modernisation program, extensive route restructuring, and an image overhaul. The airline joined SkyTeam in April 2006. The company is chaired by Viktor Ivanov, and the general director is Vitaly Savelev. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroflot

CHINA EASTERN AIRLINES

View all 5 photos...
China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited (simplified Chinese: 中国东方航空股份有限公司 or 中国东航; traditional Chinese: 中國東方航空; pinyin: zhōngguó dōngfāng hángkōng gǔfèn yǒuxiàn gōngsī) (SSE: 600115 SEHK: 0670 NYSE: CEA) is an airline headquartered on the grounds of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in Changning District, Shanghai, China. It is a major Chinese airline operating international, domestic and regional routes. Its main hubs are at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. China Eastern also has hubs at Kunming Wujiaba International Airport and Xi'an Xianyang International Airport. China Eastern Airlines is China's second-largest carrier by passenger numbers and the world’s third-biggest carriers by market value. The airline posted a net profit of CNY2.21 billion ($326.7 million) for the first half of 2010. On 16 April 2010, China Eastern Airlines announced an initial agreement to join Skyteam.

The airline was established on 25 June 1988, under the CAAC Huadong Administration. In 1997, China Eastern took over the unprofitable China General Aviation and also became the country's first airline to offer shares on the international market. It founded China Cargo Airlines in a joint venture with COSCO in 1998. In March 2001, it completed the takeover of Great Wall Airlines. China Yunnan Airlines and China Northwest Airlines merged into China Eastern Airlines in 2003. The Chinese government has a majority ownership stake in China Eastern Airlines (61.64%), while some shares are publicly held (H shares, 32.19%); A shares, 6.17%). On April 20, 2006, the media broke the news of a possible sale of up to 20% of its stake to foreign investors, including Singapore Airlines, Emirates Airline and Japan Airlines, with Singapore Airlines confirming that negotiations were underway.

After receiving approval from the State Council of China, it was announced that on September 2, 2007, Singapore Airlines and Temasek Holdings (holding company which owns 55% of Singapore Airlines) would jointly acquire shares of China Eastern Airlines. On November 9, 2007, investors signed a final agreement to buy a combined 24% stake in China Eastern Airlines: Singapore Airlines will own 15.73% and Temasek Holdings - 8.27% stake in the airline. Singapore Airlines' pending entry into the Chinese market prompted the Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific to attempt to block the deal by buying a significant stake in China Eastern and voting down the deal together with Air China (which already holds an 11% stake in China Eastern) at the shareholders' meeting in December 2007. However on September 24 Cathay Pacific announced that it had abandoned such plans.[

China Eastern Airlines is an important customer of Airbus. It was the first Chinese carrier to have ordered from the manufacturer. The backbone of the fleet is the A320 series, which are primarily used for domestic flights. In 2005, China Eastern Airlines placed an order for 15 Boeing 787s. However, the airline is now considering canceling its order owing to the program's continuous delays.

ORIGINS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

View all 18 photos...
Unlike most other languages, English was born out of a combination of two languages. The Anglo-Saxons, the people who settled in England during the fifth century, spoke a German language we now call “Old English.” Then in the 11th century, England was conquered by French-speaking people from Normandy, and French became the official language of England. Gradually, the two languages merged to form a new one, which we call “Middle English.” And Middle English gradually changed into modern English, the language we speak today.

* NOTE: France was part of the Roman Empire as (Gaul) for
many years. French has evolved from Latin, the language of
the occupying Roman forces.

During the time that Old English and French were both being spoken in England, poor farmers spoke Old English and rich landowners usually spoke French. That’s why the words we use for animals on the farm, such as cow, sheep, pig, and calf, come from a German language, while the words we use for meat at the table, such as beef, mutton, pork, and veal, come from French.

You have probably never heard of a language called Frisian. But of all the languages in the world, this tongue may be the closest language to English! Frisian is spoken in the region of Friesland and in the Frisian Islands. Friesland is a province in the northern part of the Netherlands. The Frisian Islands are a string of islands along the North Sea coast. Some of the islands belong to the Netherlands, some to West Germany.

Frisian, a dialect of Dutch, belongs to a group of languages called Low Germap that also includes Dutch and English as it was spoken centuries ago. When the Anglo-Saxon peoples invaded England in the fifth century, they spoke a language very similar to the Frisian of the day. It’s also possible that Frisian-speaking people accompanied the Anglo-Saxons on their invasions of England. In the centuries since those invasions, English and Frisian have diverged and suffered quite different fates. English is now spoken by some 350 million people, while Frisian has only about 300,000 speakers.
